IT STARTED WITH A KISS

Every day before work, our founder and CEO, Joni Rogers-Kante, said goodbye to her son, Alan, with a kiss on the cheek. 

Yet, somehow this loving gesture always left them both a bit messy. 

For Alan, it meant, since childhood, a sticky smudge to wipe off his face. 

For Joni, it meant reapplying her lipstick–yet again–before heading out the door. 

“There’s got to be a better way,” she thought. 

Determined to find an answer, she began her journey to create long-lasting, skin-loving beauty products that really work

Little did she know, her search for a smudge-proof solution would spark a global beauty movement, empowering women everywhere to kiss their limits goodbye.

LIPS THAT LAUNCHED AN EMPIRE

In 1999, Joni disrupted the beauty scene with the introduction of LipSense–the iconic, long-lasting liquid lipstick. 

 Finally, women no longer had to deal with constant reapplication, smudging, or fading—LipSense did the work for them.

For Joni, it was the beginning of a beauty revolution.

And as word spread, so did the SeneGence vision. 

Today, SeneGence continues that mission with a full line of clean, high-performance skincare and cosmetics formulated with you in mind.

INSPIRED BY MOTHER NATURE

After the success of LipSense, Joni was determined to create more powerful beauty solutions.

Guided by a tip from botanists, Joni set out for Vanuatu–a remote volcanic island with an untouched, vibrant ecosystem. 

Immersing herself in the natural beauty of the island, Joni was captivated by the flourishing wildlife.

She saw firsthand how nature thrives when unaltered by harmful additives.

The island’s resilience and abundant beauty inspired Joni’s belief that nature doesn’t need harsh chemicals to help skin become more beautiful—she’s strong enough on her own. 

This conviction became the foundation of our Clean Beauty Commitment.

Joni’s passion for uplifting women and children grew from her own personal journey of perseverance. She understands the challenges many women face, which inspired her to establish the Make Sense Foundation (MSF) in 2002.

Through donations, services, and creative initiatives, the MSF supports women and children in need, empowering them to rewrite their stories. 

From local charities to global campaigns, the foundation reflects Joni’s heartfelt belief that compassion and community can create lasting change.

Nearly 30 years later, Joni remains as driven as ever–leading SeneGence with the same heart and dedication that started it all. 

Her story is one of resilience, innovation, and unwavering belief in the power of women to change the world—starting with themselves.

A Work of Heart

The Make Sense Foundation (MSF), a nonprofit organization established by Joni Rogers-Kante in 2002, operates independently from SeneGence. It was born out of a deep commitment to giving back to the community and providing support to women and children in need.

Since its inception, the MSF has dedicated its resources, including time, services, creativity, and funds, to numerous deserving organizations. From local charities to global initiatives, the MSF has made a significant impact on countless lives. 

Through the sale of select SeneGence products, including designated LipSense shades, proceeds are directed to the MSF to cover operating expenses ensuring donations received are channeled to other deserving nonprofit organizations.

SeneGence Independent Distributors also play a vital role in supporting the foundation by donating a portion of their commission checks and participating in various fundraising events and activities held throughout the year including $60,000 in scholarships in the last 3 years.

Through the combined efforts of SeneGence, its distributors, and the Make Sense Foundation, we continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those in need, embodying the spirit of compassion and community support.
